Annecy is a town in the Haute-Savoie department of the Rh?ne-Alpes region in south-eastern France, and it lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy (Lac d'Annecy), 35 kilometres (22 miles) south of Geneva.

Annecy is probably one of the oldest inhabited sites in the Northern Alps. In fact, recent digs  set up in Annecy, have been able to date the lakeside village which has been identified off the bank at Annecy-le-Vieux at 3,100 BC.

It isn't hard to imagine why Lake Annecy has become such a popular destination among international travellers as, besides its close proximity to Geneva (22 miles to the south) and Lyon (60 miles to the west), there are many activities and attractions, one of which for the purposes of this page is a favourite pick up and drop off point for motorhome and campervan hire and rental.

Of course the town of Annecy is breathtakingly beautiful but the main source of interest in the area has to be the lake there.

Getting to Annecy where you will pick up your campervan hire vehicle is probably best via Geneva or Lyon Airport, both of which are quite handy.
